Beach Hill Is Rising

Where the h@#$ is Beach Hill?

Beach Hill is that little pocket east of Coxwell and south of Upper Gerrard Street East. In effect, the train tacks mark the Northern Border as the neighbourhood drops away down the natural incline towards Coxwell. Well served by Bowmore School the area includes a number of heavily treed streets, children oriented activities and play grounds, its own Farmer’s Market with handy proximity to the Danforth, the Beach, Ashbridge’s Bay and the Little India Bazaar. The ‘hood extends a little east beyond Woodbine where there is a spectacular evening view of the city skyline to be had.

Back in the 60s it was its own self sustaining village with Greek and Italian shops and restaurants peppering the Gerard strip. In more recent times the store fronts have given way to apartment dwellings but it is undergoing a transition. There have been a number of developments, new restaurants and excellent pubs going into the area backed up by a growing Neighbourhood Association and an admirably strong community spirit.

The two social hubs are the Naval Club of Toronto which plays host to the major community gatherings, art classes, Remembrance Day celebrations and the like along with old The Corner House, a newly renovated Bodega style bistro which is the watering hole of choice for local Dads and Mums, The Ice Masters (maintaining the outdoor rink) and occasional musical events.

The demographics are dominated by Bowmore School. It is a heavily subscribed family neighbourhood and as such the three bedroom family home is very attractive to buyers. It is starting to change though as we mentioned. We have conducted a number of transactions in the area as regularly hold open houses during the season. We know this area well. It is one of the most community minded ‘hoods in the East End but is often overlooked by its neighbours to the west and south, Leslieville and The Beach. We believe that there is great value to be had here. Beach Hill is rising.
